Bowls with Borders Day 2..err...3

So sorry I'm late in posting. I was suppose to have this up yesterday but I had some major issues with my Verizon Wireless Satellite Internet and had to post a little at a time before I could get the post completely up. Anyhow as they say better late than never.

Today is day 2 of the Bowls with Borders blog hop. I'll try not to make this too lengthy since I know you have lots of bowls to see. Earlier this year my husband and I bought a little trailer house on a lake in the lower part of northern Michigan. We use this as our weekend / vacation getaway. I am slowly decorating it in patriotic colors so I sewed my bowls in a patriotic theme of red white and blue.

One of the great things about owning a vacation home is that there is little housework...that is until the kids eat lunch or snacks and dump their dishes in the sink and walk away. So I used some fabric markers and wrote PLEASE WASH YOUR DISHES along the top to remind them that this is MY vacation time too.

Here it is hung above the sink. My next project is to make new curtains because these clash terribly. :)

Please visit the rest of the bloggers today and Enjoy your hopping!

Think Christmas Blog Hop

Today is my day for the "Think Christmas Blog Hop". I am excited because I just love Christmas sewing. It makes me feel so cheerful and happy. It is my second favorite holiday to sew for (right behind autumn).

Thank you Lesley and Madam Samm. for hosting this hop and cheering us on. You ladies are the best!!

This block was adapted from a pattern found in a McCalls Quilting Magazine pattern (the Christmas 2010 issue I believe). For some reason when I was looking at the pattern this block screemed out to me. Isn't it funny how that happens?

So here it is...

...and  of course I can't wait until Christmas to display it so I now have it sitting under one of the Summer displays in my home.

Here is a list of the other bloggers in todays line up. Hop on over to see what they've put together. You won't be disappointed.

I hope you have a great day of hopping and take care!

XOXO,

Rene'

Comfort and Joy - Block 2

Here is my second Comfort and Joy Quilt block finish. This block was really fun to make and I just love the log cabin blocks in this one. They reds and tans are stunning to see in person and now I want to make a log cabin table runner with these colors for my counter-top for Christmas.

And...here are the first 2 blocks sewn together....

Have a great day.

Comfort and Joy - Block 1

After seeing this quilt show up on various blogs as part of a quilt a long I decided I "NEEDED" to make it for myself. I absolutely love sampler quilts that use patchwork, applique and embroidery. Pair that with a Christmas theme and I am hooked every time.

This pattern is from Silver Thimble Quilt Company and can be bought here .If you would like to see versions from other bloggers you can take a look here and here

I used the fusible method of applique with a machine blanket stitch to secure the pieces on. This meant I had to reverse all the patterns but that is easy enough to do by just flipping the pages over and tracing on the backside then tracing that (reverse) image onto the the paper side of the fusible web.

This is such a fun quilt to put together and I can't wait to finish the other blocks. I really hope I can finish it up before the Christmas season. I will keep you posted...

Just a Glimpse...

Here's a little glimpse into my sewing space. My Husband just recently finished off our walkout basement and I am in the process of putting the final touches on my new sewing studio.
It is almost finished and once it is I promise to show a photo of the space in it's entirety...
Until then here are some little snippets of what I have completed so far...
The photo above is a tiered cupcake tower that I use to hold all my pretty pincushions. Before screwing the tiers onto each other I put these beautiful doilies that my MIL made over each plate. Below is a photo of the china cabinet that holds most of my stash.
The photo below is of one of the ends of the counter space my husband put in for me. He's such a doll.

Hello bloggy people. I hope you are doing well today. It is such a beautiful day here in Michigan. The sun is shining and the birds are singing songs of love and happiness. I however, am stuck in the office working away diligently...well...with the exception of right now while I am take a tiny break to write this wonderful post.

If you want to know a little about me (cause I know you do) her is the lowdown. I am a 30 something mother/wife/career woman, crafter extraordinaire, who sews, quilts, crochets and does all the other wifely duties around the home one would expect such a wonderful woman to do. :) I do not like to cook but will try hard on occasion. I love gardening in the summer months but cannot for the life of me keep a houseplant alive for more than a few months.

This little blog of mine is going to be a place for me to document my crafty endeavors so that I can look back and say ahhhh...I remember that and smile. I hope you join me.

XOXO
